The Alliance for Change (AFC) is calling on the “so called” guardians of democracy who accused the APNU+AFC coalition of holding GECOM Chair, Retired Justice Claudette Singh SC, captive prior to the March 2, 2020 elections to retract their statements.
AFC Executive Beverly Alert made the call a day after Singh appeared before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the March 2020 elections, where she admitted that at a crucial juncture on March 5, 2020, she locked herself away in a room as an illegal declaration was being made by the Returning Officer for Region Four, Clairmont Mingo,.
“For two years, more than two years, this nation was led to believe that it was the APNU+AFC through their election agents that held captive the Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Commission—that held her in her room, under duress. That [they] refused to let her go. That [they] sort of kidnapped her. That [they] broke off the handle of the door. Those were the lies being peddled by the PPP [People Progressive Party], by those who proclaim themselves to be guardians of democracy,” Alert told members of the media yesterday during a press conference.
