The 2022 edition of the MVP Futsal Championship will be decided this evening when Bent Street opposes Future Stars in the men’s final at 23:00hrs and Fruta Conquerors battle Tiger Bay in the women’s decider at 21:00hrs at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Hard fought wins were required by all four teams to clinch their respective berths to the championship match. In the men’s division, Bent Street bested Gold is Money 5-3 while Future Stars squeaked past Stabroek Ballers 2-1.

Bent Street will enter the match as the marginal favourite given their overall experience and quality as they boast a roster littered with national players including Akel Clarke, Daniel Wilson, William Europe, Omari Glasgow and Clive Nobrega.

In terms of numbers, Bent Street has recorded 31 conversions in six matches at a rate of 5.16 per fixture. On the defensive end, Bent Street has only allowed 13 concessions, which equates to 2.16 goals per encounter.

Future Stars, which boasts the second best offense in the tournament, comprises the exciting core of Tyrese Dennis, Nicholas MacArthur, Jamal Cozier, Daniel Ross, and Keron Solomon.

Offensively, they have recorded 30 goals at a rate of 5 per encounter. On the defensive end, the backline has allowed 2.83 goals per fixture, following a total of 17.

In the women’s final, Fruta Conquerors will oppose newcomer Tiger Bay in what promises to be an intriguing matchup. Fruta Conquerors downed highly GT Panthers 3-2, whilst Tiger Bay squeaked past the Guyana Police Force 2-1 in the semifinal section. 

Meanwhile, Gold is Money will lock horns with Stabroek Ballers in the men’s bronze medal match at 22:00hrs.  In the women’s third place playoff, the GPF unit will take aim at GT Panthers at 20:00hrs.

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization, said that he anticipates a pulsating conclusion to the tournament which has produced several notable and unexpected results.

Eon Ramdeo, Proprietor of MVP Sports, said that he is elated at the competitive nature and overall quality of the tournament, adding that he is committed to continuing the support for the tournament.

 

Ramdeo noted that the women’s leg of the tournament is a refreshing change, adding that more events tailored towards females should be created and conducted.

The first prize in the men’s tournament is $500,000 with $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 for the second, third and fourth-placed finishers respectively along with the corresponding accolades. 

The women’s first prize is $200,000 with $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respectively for the next three finishers.

The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine, Lucozade Energy Drink, the National Sports Commission, Star Party Rentals, and Luminous Manufacturing and Distributions, who have donated two model 1146 (46cc) motorcycles.
