A man was yesterday placed on $350,000 bail after being charged with larceny by clerk or servant where it was alleged that he stole over $5 million from Unicomer Guyana Inc while being employed there.
Stanwrick Rose, 26, of Section ‘D’, Block X Diamond, East Bank Demerara, made his appearance before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where two charges were read to him.
According to the charge, between December 1, 2018 and January 14, 2022 at Main Street, while being a clerk at Unicomer Guyana Inc., the defendant stole from the company, the sum of $4,697,747. It was further alleged that Rose, between the aforementioned dates, also stole $500,000 from Unicomer Guyana Inc.
After reading the charges to the defendant, the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was not applied and the court prosecutor did not object to bail. However, she did request that the accused be placed on substantial bail since the amount of money stolen was quite large.
As such, bail was granted and Rose was required to lodge $300,000 bail on the first charge and $50,000 bail on the second charge. Along with bail, the man was ordered to report to the fraud department at the Brickdam Police Station once a month.
The matter was then adjourned to January 9, 2023.
