With the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre at Providence confirmed as the venue, the 3rd edition of the KFC Goodwill Schools Football Series will kick-off today with an exciting doubleheader.

Petra Organization Co-Director, Troy Mendonca, during an invited comment said, “It’s a good occasion especially for the local teams to gauge where we are in terms of the sport, but we expect a good showing from the local teams, and anticipate a very good competition overall.”

He added, “I don’t anticipate any hiccups other than the issue of shifting the venue and the plan B is to use the National Training Centre, which is an all-weather facility. It’s not what we want but that is what we have to do because the event has to be completed on the 23rd.”

The opening game of the competition will pit defending champion Annai Secondary against Milo and GuyOil winner, Christianburg/Wismar, at 14:00 hours. In the second match of the scheduled doubleheader, Golden Grove Secondary will face-off with DC Caesar Fox [formerly Waramadong] from 16:00 hours.

The six competing teams will initially contest a round-robin stage round comprising two zones of three.

Group-A comprises newcomer St. Benedict College of Trinidad and Tobago, Golden Grove, and DC Caesar Fox [formerly Waramadong]. Group-B consists of GuyOil League winner, Christianburg/Wismar, Annai Secondary and SVB Academy of Suriname. At the conclusion of the group round, the top two finishers in each pool will advance to the semi-final section.

The tournament will continue on Saturday and Monday at the same venue. The other sponsors of the tournament include Tiger Rentals Guyana, Trophy Stall, Guyana Beverage Incorporated, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
