Powerhouse Region #4 sent a stern warning to the field in the inaugural ‘One Guyana President’s Cup’ Football Championship, dismantling Region #7 by a 6-1 score-line last evening at the National Track and Field Facility, West Coast Demerara.
Witnessed by a small crowd, the contest was essentially over at the end of the first half, as Region #4 registered all six of their eventual conversions. Ryan Hackett bagged a double in the fourth and 35th minute, while Omari Glasgow scored in the 18th and 45th+1 minute.
Adding goals in the first and 20th minute were the experienced duo of Kelsey Benjamin and Colin Nelson respectively. For the loser, an own goal was recorded in the 41st minute.
Meanwhile, Region #10 and Region #5 played to a 3-3 stalemate. Donovan Francis bagged a double in the 45th+1 and 46th minute for Region #10, while an own goal added to the score in the 30th minute.
For Region #5, the trident of Delroy Fraser, Olvis Mitchell, and Abumchi Benjamin netted in the eighth, 55th and 90th minute respectively. The event is penciled to resume tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader.
