The inclement weather had the final say last evening, as the feature contest between Region #3 and Region #2 in the One Guyana President’s Cup Football Championship was abandoned due to the torrential downpour which inundated the playing area of the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
The incessant rainfall curtailed the match in the 10th minute and continued unabated, which forced the organizers to eventually abandon the fixture, as the surface became unplayable and unsafe.
At the time of the stoppage, the match was 1-0 in favour of Region #3 compliments of a Trayon Bobb strike in the eighth minute. According to tournament officials, the match will resume at the same venue on Tuesday December 20th.
Meanwhile, Region #9 defeated Region #8 by a 3-0 score in the earlier contest. The tournament continues on Sunday with another round of matches.
