Gov’t remains committed to diversified energy generation – Ali

President Irfaan Ali on Tuesday said that the gas to shore project will not affect the pace of planned renewable energy projects as he reaffirmed the PPP/C government’s commitment to ensure that Guyana has a diversified portfolio of energy generation.

“Our commitment to the hydro and a diversified portfolio of energy generation will be unparalleled and unmatched,” Ali said yesterday during the signing of the Wales gas to energy agreement.

He added that Guyana’s energy projects will extend beyond the country’s borders as part of the government’s strategic approach towards energy generation.

“All of these [projects] will be rolled out as we move forward with unlocking our energy master plan nationally and regionally,” he said.

“Guyana has once again proven that we not only have strong bilateral relationships and partnerships, but perhaps [as] we have not tested it as yet, we have the most diversified portfolio of projects… That tells you something about the country,” he added.

At the same ceremony, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo stated that the Amaila Falls Hydro project would soon be coming online.
