Prime Minister Mark Phillips yesterday afternoon distributed 150 hampers to the flood-affected communities of Barnwell North and Mocha Arcadia on the East Bank of Demerara.
The Prime Minister, under whose purview the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) falls, spearheaded yesterday afternoon’s visit to assess the impact of the flooding and deliver the vital relief supplies.
“We are approaching this in an inter-agency manner in the sense that the Ministry of Agriculture is doing their part, the Ministry of Housing, the Civil Defence Commission and other ministries will be in here (the community) to alleviate the problems residents are encountering at this difficult time.”
He further said that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), CDC and other pertinent agencies were making every effort to lessen the impact of flooding in the communities.
Prime Minister Phillips, who was accompanied by the Minister of Public Service, Sonia Parag also stated that the visit is a follow-up to the previous one by the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha earlier this week.
