(Trinidad Guardian) An elderly woman was found dead on a bed at her Gasparillo home with her face partially melted yesterday morning.
It is believed that her injury was caused by acid or a highly corrosive substance.
Everlyn Piper, 80, became bedridden earlier this year and lived with a 97-year-old husband at Charia Street.
Neighbours said yesterday morning her husband informed them that she had died, then her were informed and the police were contacted.
According to a report, the police got to the house around 10.30 am and was taken to a bedroom where they saw Piper lying on the bed and her lower jaw appeared to be melted.
Police were told that she was suffering from high blood pressure and cholesterol.
“This is a real shock. It sad, sad,” said a neighbour.
Nicole John who cares for her said when she left her around 5 pm yesterday she was in good spirits.
Gasparillo police were on the scene and are investigating.
