A North Ruimveldt man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with grabbing a man off his motorcycle and stealing it.
Lennox Barkley, 31, of Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court where the charge of robbery under arms was read to him.
The particulars of the offence alleged that Barkley who was in the company of two others on August 13 at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and armed with an offensive weapon which was an icepick, robbed Akeem Benjamin of one motorcycle worth $205,000.
The court heard that on the day in question at about 19.30 hours, Benjamin was on his motorcycle riding home along Aubrey Barker Road when Berkley and two male accomplices grabbed him off his motorcycle and threatened him with the icepick.
At this point, Benjamin became fearful for his life and allowed the suspects to take the motorcycle which they used to escape.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge but police prosecutor, Shundel Chapman, objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and due to the fact that Barkley and Benjamin live in the same community and if he (Berkley) is to be granted bail then he might interfere with virtual complainant.
As such, Magistrate McLennan remanded the man and adjourned the matter until January 18.
