West Indies batting legend, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, is allegedly not expected to renew his contract with USA Cricket to serve as the women’s senior and U19 head-coach, after the conclusion of the 2023 International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 World Cup in South Africa.
According to Trinidad and Tobago Loop, Cricket USA issued a statement yesterday which supposedly confirmed the expected departure of the Guyanese.
The statement purportedly said, “It is really unfortunate that Chanderpaul has intended to part ways with the current role as head coach after the U19 World cup.
His experience as a player and his expertise as a coach are of immense value, and it had started to show results in his early stint as a coach of the USA Women’s team.”
“USA Cricket governing body is trying to stabilize from the few losses since its inception in 2018, as half dozen coaches, few administrators and few selected independent directors have departed and to lose Shivnarine at this juncture is a big loss for USA Cricket, no doubt about that”, the statement added.
Chanderpaul, 48, joined USA Cricket in July. He played a record 164 Tests for West Indies, and also featured in 268 ODIs and 22 T20Is. He also is the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket for the West Indies with 11,867 runs.
