Tiffani Jeffrey, a 38-year-old woman died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday after delivering her baby two days ago.
GPHC’s Public Relations Officer, Chelauna Providence told Stabroek News that the woman, who she did not name, was monitored at the hospital up to the day of her delivery. Jeffrey gave birth to her baby two days ago, however, as a result of many complications, she succumbed.
The GPHC has recorded several maternal deaths over the past few months. On October 20th, Rashanna Dindayal, 31, and her unborn child died. She apparently collapsed at the hospital while making her way to the washroom unattended. She was said to have suffered a severe head wound and died thereafter. Also on October 29th, a 39-year-old mother of five, Navita Maraj and her unborn child died at the GPHC, uterine rupture was given as the cause of death.
A 40-year-old woman of Region Six patient died on November 12th at the Ocean View Infectious Diseases Hospital after she and her unborn child developed many complications.
On November 13th a 19–year old female died and one of her twins was a stillbirth. Minister of Health Frank Anthony had said that this patient had preeclampsia (a high blood pressure disorder) and the condition resulted in the patient having several seizures. She later died because of her complications.
