The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) will start the new year with an assessment of the fitness levels of the Guyana Harpy Eagles and other players ahead of the upcoming Regional four-day championships.
This is according to former West Indies speedster and current Technical Development Officer (TDO) of the GCB, Colin Stuart.
The 2023 edition of the West Indies Championship, which begins on February 1, will be played across five rounds of four-day games featuring six regional franchise teams.
“The Guyana Harpy Eagles players as well as the Emerging Players will have fitness assessments to start the new year which will be followed by three practice matches,” Stuart told Stabroek Sports yesterday.
He declined to go into details but said the fitness assessments were different tests that Cricket West Indies (CWI) have set out for the players to undergo.
Stuart said that the practice matches will be over four days, adding that the national cricket selectors under former national player Rabindranauth Seeram, will be tasked with selecting the players for the various practice matches.
The practice matches are for the 15 players contracted by Cricket West Indies as well as the 17 Emerging Players.
Stuart said that the players have been working as a group up to December 22nd and today and tomorrow they will complete their individual work programmess.
“You might very well see the players changing,” he said.
