An Angoy’s Avenue man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the murder of a 15-year-old boy on Wednesday last.
Lester La Fleur, 39, of Angoy’s Avenue appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh where he was charged with the murder of Carlos Leung.
An unrepresented La Fleur also known as ‘Eion’, was not required to plead to the charge and Magistrate Singh ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the accused.

Leung, a student of the New Amsterdam Special Needs School and of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue sustained five stab wounds in the left side of his abdomen, arm, shoulder and behind his ear.
Carl Singh, 26, a labourer of Timmers Dam remains hospitalized at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in a serious condition. He reportedly sustained three stab wounds during the 6 am attack at Timmers Dam on Wednesday last.
According to residents in the area, Singh was at a shop purchasing feed for his chickens when La Fleur, 41, of Mai Mai Dam, Angoy’s Avenue arrived at the shop concealing a sharp object under his shirt.
The shop owner who had asked not to be named told Stabroek News, that Singh saw La Fleur with a sharp object under his shirt and queried what he was doing with it. However, before Singh could say anything else, the accused began stabbing the man causing him to run up the road with the stabber in pursuit.
Leung’s mother, Michelle Bess, 53, had said that Leung was on their bridge with his bicycle preparing to head over to school for a Christmas party when he saw the men running in their direction.
She said in a matter of seconds the accused latched on to Leung and began stabbing him after which he threw him in a drain and sat on him as he continued to stab him under the water.
It was only after a group of men, one armed with a cutlass, approached the attacker and pushed him off the lad that he stopped stabbing him.
Leung and Singh were both rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where Leung was pronounced dead on arrival.
Leung who suffered regular seizures due to a hit to his head experienced when he was nine years old, was described as an obedient and helpful child by the community.
