Bandits on Sunday evening attacked an East Canje Berbice man leaving him with a chop injury and his neighbour who was imbibing with him at the time, with a gunshot wound.
Michael Chunoo, 38, of Lot 29 Sheet Anchor, was attacked on Sunday around 7.40 pm at his house by two males armed with a hand gun and cutlass.
According to information gathered, an LG cellular phone valued $60,000 was stolen.
Stabroek News was told, that Chunoo and his neighbour, Gordon Benn were in the lower flat of Chunoo’s premises imbibing when the two men who had black cloth tied around their noses and mouths, invaded the house.
According to Chunoo, the perpetrators repeatedly demanded cash. The man with the cutlass then dealt Chunoo a chop to his head while the other man, who was armed with the gun, fired one shot towards Benn hitting him in his right leg.
After the men did not hand over any cash, the bandits snatched the cellular phone and fled.
Both Chunoo and Benn were taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Benn was immediately admitted while Chunoo was treated and sent home.
Yesterday, Chunoo returned to the health facility as he noted that he was experiencing intense pain in his head. The police in Berbice have since launched an investigation into the matter.
