The lifeless body of a 78-year-old woman was yesterday discovered at her Paramakatoi Village, Region Eight home and an autopsy revealed that she had been suffocated and beaten.
Dead is Ramdai Balkarran called “Jean”, a shopkeeper of Paramakatoi Village, North Pakaraimas.
The incident occurred sometime between 19:30 hrs on Wednesday and 06:30 hrs on Thursday.
An autopsy conducted yesterday confirmed that Balkarran died as a result of suffocation. She was also beaten. No arrest has yet been made.
It is suspected that Balkarran killer/s gained entry to her house by removing several louvres from a window.
Reports are that Balkarran’s son, Samuel Balkarran operates a grocery in the village. He left for Georgetown on Christmas Day leaving Balkarran and her husband, Basil Balkarran behind.
According to information reaching Stabroek News, at around 19:30 hrs on Wednesday, Ramdai and Basil were talking after which she retired to bed and he proceeded to his prayer room.
The following morning, this newspaper was told that when Basil woke up and called for Ramdai, he got no answer.
The door to the house was secured from inside and he observed that several louvre panes had been removed from a window. As such, Basil immediately raised an alarm.
Stabroek News was told that persons went into the house where they found Ramdai lying motionless on her bed.
There were bruises to her nose and forehead.
Further checks revealed that a mesh fence at the back of the yard had been cut open.
The police were summoned and an investigation was launched.
