A prison officer was yesterday arrested after she was allegedly busted with a quantity of cannabis while at the New Amsterdam Prison.
Sarafane Pitt, 29, of Lot 51 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was arrested just around 5. 50 am.
According to information gathered, police received a report from the prison that the woman was found with a quantity of cannabis within the guard hut area.
Stabroek News was told that a search conducted by the Prison Authorities found a black plastic bag wrapped with transparent plastic containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stem suspected to be cannabis in her hand bag.
The woman was handed over to lawmen after they arrived at the location.
The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 604 grams.
An investigation has since been launched.
