Along with his trusted lieutenants Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle and deputy Director of Sports Melissa Dow-Richardson and Franklin Wilson, the Honourable Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jnr., yesterday heralded the return of the National Sports Awards ceremony.
Speaking to media personnel in the boardroom of the National Sports Commission mainstreet offices, Minister Ramson Jnr., spoke of the importance of recognition for the nation’s top athletes and officials, as the awards ceremony makes a triumphant return after a COVID-enforced two-year hiatus.
“It’s been two years since we’ve had the awards mostly because of COVID, in fact really because of COVID and we’ve had a pretty successful year coming out of COVID given the circumstances in 2022,” he told media operatives from both the print and the electronic media.
“We’ve been one of the countries that I think has really progressed our sports activity as proudly as possible, in fact we recognize that was one of the ways in which we can combat COVID,” the minister added.
According to Ramson Jnr., the National Sports wards will be on the 29th of this month at the National Cultural Centre.
“The ministry has been doing a lot of aggressive work to get folks back into activity and with a successful year everyone has to be recognized. It is important that people are recognized and it is important that everybody that is involved in sport that they are recognized.
“Our sports awards is something that has existed for a long time and there’s a reason why it has existed for a long time it always made sense.
“So were happy to be part of the recommencement of the awards. We expect it to be of a distinct flavor, there may be some new categories.
“We’ve appointed our new committee and the committee is going to be a committee that is of high integrity, everyone would be recognized as being qualified and capable to make the appointments, the awards, and we’re very very happy that they have agreed to be part of the service of our country in recognizing sports people and sports in general in the development of sports in the country,” he ended. Ramson Jnr., also disclosed that the NSC will stage their Sports Conference on January 28, a day before the awards ceremony.
The Sports Conference will focus of the sports academy and Ramson Jnr., said they also want to do a workshop as well.
“The focus is really on a number of things,” Ramson Jnr., said adding… “So it’s not just a panel discussion like we had last year, it also includes a workshop and then on the Sunday is when we do the awards ceremony.”
