Cops still probing shooting in front of Outside Bar

The police investigation into Sunday’s incident in front the Outside Bar at MovieTowne, Turkeyen during which a mechanic was wounded and a security guard was struck in his face is still ongoing and no charge has yet been laid.

“That matter is still being investigated,” Police Commander of Region Four, Simon McBean yesterday told Stabroek News, when contacted for an update.

The incident had occurred around 4.30am during an argument.

Olofi DeSantos of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara was shot thrice while security guard, Sheldon Adams suffered lacerations to his face.

Reports had revealed that DeSantos was in the company of two brothers: Errol Baptiste, a businessman and 29-year-old Erron Baptiste, who are both licensed firearm holders of Campbellville, Georgetown.

They arrived at the bar in a Crown motorcar, driven by one of the Baptiste brothers.

The police had said DeSantos and the Baptiste brothers arrived at the bar and parked in front of the entrance.

As a result, Adams approached one of the Baptiste brothers who was driving the car and told him that he could not park there. The police said that the Baptiste brothers and DeSantos exited the car and refused to move it.

One of the Baptiste brothers, who had a Hennessy bottle in his hand then allegedly lashed Adams in his face with the bottle causing him to collapse to the ground, the police added.

DeSantos then allegedly pulled out a handgun from his pants waist and discharged several rounds in the area. It is unclear whether the weapon is a licensed firearm. “As a result, persons that were around, names unknown, also discharged rounds, and (DeSantos) was shot,” the police said.

DeSantos fell to the ground with the firearm and someone took it away from him. He and Adams were taken to a private city hospital.

The Baptiste brothers then entered their car and drove away. They were subsequently arrested and their firearms along with licenses were seized and lodged.

McBean yesterday said that the Baptiste brothers were placed on bail as the investigation continues.

Police recovered a total of 12 spent shells and two warheads at the scene
