Mohamed’s Enterprise’s decision to gift the country 1.4 acres of waterfront land with a market value of US$3M that falls in the pathway of the New Demerara Harbour Bridge was done as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to citizens as everyone will benefit from the structure, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Nazar ‘Shell’ Mohamed says.
“It falls in the pathway for the construction of the bridge and we decided to gift it instead of accepting monies from the country because it is our way of giving back to the country. I am pro-development and this bridge will benefit all people…,” Mohamed told Stabroek News yesterday when contacted.
“We have 14 acres of land in that vicinity and although 1.4 acres will be taken away, we will still have the rest. So I see this as a part of our corporate social responsibility…it is used for a common good to benefit the nation,” Mohamed who explained his belief in giving back, added.
The company had on Wednesday announced on its Facebook page that it had gifted a US$3m waterfront property to facilitate the construction of the new Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB).
In a post on its Facebook page, the company said that preparatory works have begun to facilitate the construction of the new DHB. The bridge will pass over Mohamed’s Enterprise’s Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) waterfront property on the eastern side of the river and at La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD) on the western side.
“In light of this and as its commitment to nation building, Mohamed’s Enterprise and Hadi’s World Inc. will donate 1.4 acres of prime land worth about US$3 million towards the construction of bridge”, the post said.
The land will be used to store equipment and building materials during the construction phase of the new facility.
