Dear Editor,
While twenty-eight illegal occupiers willingly complied with the request to relocate and accepted compensation, seven were defiant.
For two years, since assuming office, the authorities have been engaging the residents, whose status were illegal, with the reward of full compensation for their existing illegal structures; a free residential house lot (the defiant seven were rewarded move-in ready, single flat two bedroom houses); a grace period to facilitate the construction of their new house and acres of lease lands (for agricultural and animal husbandry purposes).
So matters came to a tense head against the defiant seven who retaliated by laying their ground and lighting fire to an excavator, among other aggressive acts. In the end it was reported that four of the defiant seven have accepted the government’s reward to them of move-in ready, single flat two bedroom houses in Diamond. And then there were three. Illegal and rewarded but still defiant.
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
