Dear Editor,
On December 24 2022 a letter under my pen, “The AG should advise what recourse should be resorted to against GWI”, was published in Stabroek News. The letter drew attention to an overflowing sewage chamber on my premises which has been in this continuous state since November 17 2022, when the formal report was made to the company.
On December 25 2022 GWI in response to my letter of the previous day offered “GWI says battling to unclog Alberttown gravity sewer”, also published in SN.
Since the time of the formal report, to the appearance of my letter, GWI’s response, to the penning of this letter on January 9, the situation has continued unabated throughout the Festive Season. There has been no follow-up visit or communication from the company on the matter and its status and how much longer the situation will continue.
I am of the firm view that the current crop of technicians/engineers in the Company’s employ do not have the requisite skill, experience and knowhow to deal with the sewerage system of old Georgetown. An appeal is now made to the requisite minister, Mr Croal/Ms Rodrigues, to please look into this matter with a view to finding a lasting solution, even if it means using the expertise of retired engineers/technicians, some of whom I understand are still around.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
