Two women and a man have been arrested after a firearm and a quantity of cannabis was discovered by the police at their Crane home.
According to a Guyana Police Force release, ranks from Regional Police Division 3 arrested 3 persons yesterday at 5 am after 523 grams of cannabis and a .38 revolver without serial number, was found at their Crane, West Coast Demerara address.
The release said that the police acting on information received, attended the home of Andrea Lake, a 55-year-old housewife of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, in search of drugs, guns and ammunition.
The search was carried out in the presence of her 29-year-old daughter, Toniyanna Skeete, and her 55-year-old boyfriend, Deon Gherow, but nothing illegal was found in the home. However, while searching the yard, ranks observed ‘disturbed soil’ in the back yard. One of the ranks proceeded to dig up the ‘disturbed soil’ and found a red metal tin. Inside the tin was a bulky black plastic bag which when opened in their presence revealed a black .38 revolver with no serial number.
A further search was conducted under the concrete bridge connecting the street to the premises. A bulky black plastic bag was recovered which contained a quantity of suspected cannabis.
The three suspects were told of the offence committed and were escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station with the firearm and suspected cannabis, which was weighed and amounted to 523 grams.
The suspects were placed in custody pending further investigations and charges.
