Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket West Indies, Johnny Grave is confident that the body has seen a financially solid 2022 despite rumors of them being broke.
According to Grave on the Mason and Guest show, “2022 has been a record year in terms of revenue and profits and probably almost $80M in revenue so a high of $70M is probably our record revenue, a surplus of north of US$20M, so in terms of the strength of 2022 is probably a record year for the organization,” when asked about commentary on their financial status.
“Our auditors are in at the moment, we will complete our financial audit by the next week or so and that would go through the finance committee and then to our shareholders at the AGM in March,” Grave continued.
The CEO also predicted a solid 2023 with two lucrative tours set for the region.
“This year is forecasted to be a very good year with India coming in the summer and you don’t need me to repeat the fact that India is the number one commercially attractive tour we host, and we’ve then got England coming for a white-ball tour in December,” he said.
Grave contended, “The finances of the organization, I guarantee you has been transformational in the last two years. We have come out of COVID-19 and we will finish 2023 and 2024 on a very solid financial footing helped massively by England and India touring 2022 and England and India touring in 2023 and England coming back in 2024 and hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup in June of 2024 is a game changing moment.”
The Englishman reasoned that there is an opportunity, particularly with the T20 World Cup in June will generate a significant sum of revenue in the range of tens of millions of dollars that can be invested wisely.
