Through the intervention of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh and the Office of the Chairman of Region Six, a total of $1.2m in backdated vouchers were paid out to Mr. Khasow of No. 75 village Corentyne man who had been waiting for over 18 years to receive his monthly NIS pension.

A release on the Ministry of Finance’s Facebook page said that this was due to unforeseen circumstances, resulting in the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) being unable to track the records of his contributions. However, it was when the Finance Minister visited Region Six in December 2022 during an outreach for the NIS that Khasow turned up and raised his concern with the Minister who at the time committed to ensuring that it was resolved.
