The community of North Sophia has signed a $14 million contract with the Local Government and Regional Development Ministry for the construction of a new multi-purpose community ground and safe space for children.
At the sod-turning ceremony yesterday, Local Government Minister, Nigel Dharamlall noted that the project is a fulfilment of Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo upon request by residents, the Department of Public Information (DPI) reported.
“On the directive of the Vice President who has made a commitment to the people of North Sophia to construct a community centre and to do some upgrading work towards creating a safe space for people within the community and so this morning we are here to turn the sod for the construction of the community centre and all the attendant work that has to be done.
