CAPE TOWN, South Africa, CMC – Neither Alzarri Joseph nor Romario Shepherd had any influence as Joburg Super Kings slumped to their second loss in as many days to continue their languish near the bottom of the SA20 standings.
In the wake of their batting meltdown on Friday which resulted in a seven-wicket loss to Paarl Royals, Super Kings once again failed to deliver with the bat and suffered an identical margin of defeat to MI Cape Town, after only mustering 105 for nine from their 20 overs.
Sent in at Newlands, Super Kings lost wickets steadily and Leus du Plooy’s 21 from 26 balls was the best on offer from the batting group.
Shepherd, known for his robust lower order hitting, managed only five at number seven while Joseph, also a capable low order striker, made only two as their West Indies teammate, fast bowler Odean Smith, led the attack with two for 10 from two overs – one of four bowlers with a brace of wickets.
In reply, opener Dewald Brevis erased any doubt over the result with a top score of 42 from 34 deliveries as the hosts coasted to victory with 22 balls to spare.
Crucially, he put on 65 for the first wicket with Ryan Rickelton who made 21 from 24 balls, the partnership clearing the way for Cape Town’s second win in three matches.
Joseph produced a solid four-over spell which cost just 26 runs but yielded no wicket while fellow seamer Shepherd claimed a single wicket in eight balls sent down.
