The Guyana Chess Federation will continue its developmental push in 2023 with the staging of the DeSinco National Under-12 Rapid chess tournament on January 28 at the School of the Nations, 41-42 New Market Street.
According to a release from the GCF, the seven-round tournament will entail 20 –minute games with five additional seconds per move.
This tournament will see the participants reverting to over the board battles as last year the tournament was held virtually.
The GCF is asking interested players to register only at guyanachess.org. Registration will close on January 27 at 18.00 hours. Registration is free for members of the federation while children who wish to compete can register for a fee of $2000 via Mobile Money Guyana.
The top three finishers in the Open and girls divisions will receive prizes as well as the best under-10 boy and girl and best under-8 boy and girl.
When the tournament was held last year virtually, 45 players participated with Alexander Zhang winning the Open category and Kristin Xavier winning the girls category.
According to the GCF release, this year, the competition is expected to be graced with the participation of key contenders, Nicholas Zhang, Aquilani Swaminadha and the Mohabir brothers, Julian and Landon. Kataleya Sam, Chelsea Harrison, Skyler Gurchuran and Saudia Deo among others are also set to compete in the girl’s category.
The federation is expressing gratitude to DeSinco Trading Limited for their continued support.
DeSinco has been a long-time supporter and committed partner in the development of chess in Guyana, particularly at the youth level, the GCF release stated.
