The penultimate day’s play in the Guyana Cricket Board, Guyana Harpy Eagles’ first warm-up match at the National Stadium, Providence yesterday, saw 15 wickets tumbling as  Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s XI came away with a nine-wicket win over Veerasammy Permaul’s XI.

Resuming on 378 for six in their first innings and 117 runs ahead, Chanderpaul’s XI reached 429 all out in 98.1 overs.

Permaul’s XI then responded with 186 all out in 53 overs leaving Chanderpaul’s XI requiring just 19 runs for victory.

Wicketkeeper batsman Kemol Savory made 170 and 14 not out in
an impressive showing in the first Guyana Cricket Board trial
match which ended yesterday at the Providence National Stadium.

They eventually reached 22 for one in 10 balls. Kevin Sinclair failed to add to his overnight score of 40 after holding out to Akshaya Persaud off of Ronsford Beaton who made light work of the lower order.

The Essequibo seamer removed his County captain, Antony Adams, for 23 from 35 balls and Shamar Joseph, who failed to score. Clinton Pestano helped his side over the 400-run mark with a 28-ball, 21-run cameo and Demitri Cameron also got up to 12 from eight balls, hitting three boundaries along the way.

Beaton showed why he is regarded as one of the most dangerous seamers around, returning figures of 4-84 while Ronaldo Alimohamed bagged 2-27.

In Permaul’s XI second innings, Joseph continued his impressive showing in the match by removing Rampertab Ramnauth (07) and Tevin Imlach (04) to reduce the side to 18 for two.

This brought Kevlon Anderson to the crease who then staked a claim for a spot in the middle order with a composed top score of 40 from 101 balls.

His innings featured seven boundaries and he shared in a 38-run partnership for the third wicket with Matthew Nandu who made 24 from 52 balls before he was caught and bowled by his Guyana Amazon Warriors teammate, Gudakesh Motie.

Ashmead Nedd (22) and Shamar Yearwood (21) were the only other batsmen to get into the 20s while Junior Sinclair (18), Akshaya Persaud (15) and Alimohamed (13) got to double figures. Joseph and Kevin Sinclair picked up two wickets each for 17 and 20 runs respectively.

In the chase to victory, Kemol Savory followed up his 170 in the first innings with 14 not out from just six balls. He struck three boundaries.

The second match will bowl off on Thursday at the same venue.
