It has been almost one year since Digicel launched its cellular and data services in the North Rupununi with much fanfare. In an increasingly technologically and data driven world, many of us welcomed the initiative especially taking into consideration the fact that GTT, the other service provider in the North Rupununi had a long and well documented history of providing a service that was downright poor.
Almost a year on, and after a very encouraging start where its data
services were fast and reliable, Digicel’s quality of service, especially its data service has plummeted greatly and now seems to be on par with or even worse than GTT’s which frankly is scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel. While one has to pay a leg and an arm for the provision of its data services, the quality being provided by Digicel nowhere matches the investment we the customers have to make.
I am therefore kindly asking Digicel to look into why its data service in the North Rupununi is so slow and unreliable especially around the peak hours of between 17:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs daily. And I do hope that some sort of intervention is urgently made and that remedial action is taken to relieve the suffering of the overpaying customers of the North Rupununi.
