A man has been remanded to prison for stealing a gold chain valued S76,000.
John Samson, 30, yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him. It stated that on Friday, 12 January, 2023, at Robb and Cummings Street, Georgetown, he robbed Theresa Da Silva of one gold chain valued $76,000.
According to the prosecution, the victim on Friday, January 13, 2023, at about 4.30 hrs was walking in the vicinity of Robb and Cummings streets, Georgetown when the suspect approached her. The suspect then grabbed the chain from the virtual complainant and escaped. A report was lodged the same day at the police station.
The victim sometime later spotted the chain on Samson’s neck and alerted the police. He was contacted by the police, told of the allegations, and cautioned, at which time he admitted to the offence. He was then arrested and placed in custody. The chain was recovered and has been lodged at the police station.
Samson pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison.
