Steven Surujbally a 24 year-old of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, is nursing a gunshot wound after being attacked by two men on motorcycle at about 20:30 hours on Wednesday at 3rd Street, Cummings Lodge.
The motive for the attack is unclear
According to a police press release, on Wednesday evening, Surujbally was walking home heading in a southern direction when the suspects rode up to him on a motorcycle, registration number unknown, from the opposite direction.
When they reached Surujbally, they stopped, dismounted the motorcycle, and walked up to him. He immediately suspected that their intentions were not good. He ended up scuffling with the men, and during the scuffle, the pillion rider pulled out a handgun and discharged a round at him, hitting him in the chest. The bullet exited from the back.
The attackers then jumped on the motorcycle and rode away. The victim was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by EMT personnel, where he was admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
Several persons have been questioned.
