Interim head coach of the West Indies senior men’s team, Andre Coley, is looking to start his stint on a positive note and aims to achieve this with clear and open communication.
Coley will have his first task against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe later this month in a two-Test series.
“My immediate goal is to quickly as possible, build a rapport with the players, captain, making sure we are heading in the right direction,” he said.
“We have already started those conversations, Kraigg [Brathwaite] and myself in terms of how we will operate on the tours and just be clear on how we want to approach things inclusive of support staff so it’s really having clear and open communication on how we are looking to achieve the goals,” Coley added during his first press conference since taking up the role yesterday.
Coley said that his years of being in and about the regional set up has given him a closer relationship with the players, making his transition to the post easier.
“It’s always good when you are working with a team to have good working relationships and understanding and my experience over the recent years would have contributed to that. Yes, I would have had relationships with the different players across the squad and I’m looking to leverage that and grow that and use that as a tool that we can utilize in terms of assisting with our planning.”
Heading into the series, Coley said that in the shortest time, he wants the team to be settled in Zimbabwe to get things underway.
