The brass of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) plans to have their players busy this 2023 season.
According to GRFU head, Ryan Dey, the juices of the players will start to flow from next Sunday.
Said Dey recently, “I see us splitting the year into two seasons, the first season starting next Sunday and finishing May 28.
“In this first season every Sunday there will be a 12s league and the last Saturday of every month there will be a 7s tournament,” he said.
Following a two-month break, the season will recommence “where it would follow the same format as the first half of the season.
“We would be starting our `Get into Rugby’ programme on February 2 where we would be going into some selected schools and having school tournaments at the end of the school term,” he disclosed. Dey said the programme is geared towards ensuring the growth of the sport.
On the international scene, the men’s national team dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ will compete in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7s tournament which is an Olympic qualifier. The event is scheduled to be staged in August at a host venue to be announced.
Dey concluded by stating that a short list of players will be sent out shortly and the national training will commence next month.
