Men on Mission promotes ‘stay home’ day for fathers next Sunday

With the hope that it brings family units closer, President Irfaan Ali’s inspired Men on Mission syndicate is asking fathers and father figures to dedicate next Sunday as a day to stay in and help their families.

“Let’s make this a special day at home with dad, spending quality time, playing, cooking, reading, playing sports or watching a movie and all fun stuff,” the public notice stated, while pointing out that persons can win prizes for the act.

All they would need to do is to take a photo with whatever activity they did on Sunday and upload to the MenonMissionGy Facebook page or email it to play@menonmission.gy.

If the fathers or father figures work on Sundays, they can still send photos of activities done with their families before they went out to provide for their loved ones.

Men on Mission noted that the male role is important in building a cohesive and well-rounded family unit and individuals and especially integral in having role models for young males in society.

The initiative falls under the President’s ‘One Guyana’ initia-tive, with the objective of positively addressing men’s challenges and providing a support mechanism that they can turn to help live purposeful lives. Through mentorship and humanitarian engagements, participants across the country’s 10 administrative regions go into communities to assist.

Ali announced last month that the Men on Mission (MoM) initiative will help with the construction of approximately 150 homes across the country for vulnerable persons who own their own land. He had made the statement when he presented 85-year-old Herstelling, East Bank Demerara resident Meena Bafan with the keys to her newly built home.

“I think this is a real testimony to who we are as a people, as a country, when we can come together like this, and work with the private sector, led by the private sector to do things like this, and this is what is going to transform our country—the way we think and feel about each other. When we can come together; people of all persuasions, whether it’s political, social, cultural, ethnic; coming together and working together to deliver good things for citizens across our country,” the President said.

He had also stated that MoM is going to be very active this year.

He said that the banks have already been engaged and are willing to finance the projects, once persons own their own lands. Interested persons are urged to contact the offices of the Police Commissioner and the Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force to register.

“So a house like this, we will work to deliver everything you see here for about $5 million for anybody who has their own land anywhere,” he had stated,

The President said that it was not only government that should be praised for the initiative but also the private sector.

“These guys are willing to actually reduce profit lines and everything for the wood and labour, which is one of the most critical things for us,” he added.

To date, the group has been engaged in a variety of humanitarian activities, includ-ing a nationwide clean-up exercise, and the rebuilding of homes for the elderly.
