The opening night of the East Coast Mash Cup Football Championship got off to an inauspicious start, as the feature encounter between Buxton United and Dynamic FC was abandoned, after the former opted against taking the playing area, citing the poor quality lighting and surface as the primary reasons.

The match was penciled to commence following the end of the first fixture between Mahaica Determinators and Victoria Kings. However, the encounter never materialized, as the technical staff of the Buxtonian outfit decided against taking the playing area because of the poor lighting and quality of the surface. Dynamic FC who are the hosts of the tournament was willing to contest the encounter.

According to an official from the coordinating team, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “The lights and the condition of the ground were cited as the reasons for Buxton United not taking the field. In their estimation, the lighting and the field were of poor quality. The first game occurred and there were no issues or injuries. A decision has to be made soon on the outcome of the game given that it’s a knockout tournament and they is a defined structure and timetable for its conclusion. A decision will shortly, I believe that will occur before the end of the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Mahaica Determinators defeated Victoria Kings 5-4 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended 3-3. Prior to the eventual end, Samuel Van Dijk bagged a brace in the 66th and 89th minute for the eventual winner while Samuel Sam scored in the fifth minute.

For Victoria Kings, the trio of Jarvis Charles, Ron Collins, and Henry Holder found the back of the net in the 10th, 39th, and 82nd minute respectively.

The tournament continues today at the same venue with another round of matches. At 18:00hrs, Buxton Stars will lock horns with Rosignol United, whilst the feature affair will pit Santos against Pouderoyen from 20:30hrs.
