A 30-year-old vendor was yesterday remanded to prison after being slapped with three charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Joel Douglas of Phoenix Park, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was arraigned before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court. The Police said that Douglas pleaded not guilty to all three charges and was remanded to prison. He is expected to make his next court appearance on February 14th.
According to the facts provided, on Friday, a Police Sergeant, acting on information received stopped a white old-model Raum motorcar bearing the registration number, PNN 6297, along the Versailles Public Road, WBD. The occupants of the car were Douglas, the driver, and a 22-year-old female, said to be Douglas’ girlfriend.
A search was carried out on the said motorcar and on the floor of the vehicle, behind the driver’s seat, was a bulky black bag in which one Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol without serial number, and three live matching rounds were found.
