National badminton player, Narayan Ramdhani, got his 2023 season off to a successful start by securing gold in singles and mixed doubles at the Alberta Colleges’ Athletics Conference (ACAC) Tournament number two.
The tournament, unfolding at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Alberta, Canada over the weekend, saw the King’s University player, the number one seed in the draw of 16, coming away with a 21-10, 21-17 win over number two seed, Sanskar Chopra to complete an unblemished run in the tournament.
Narayan had earlier gotten past Gurmanjot Singh 21-12, 21-8 in the quarter finals after advancing to that round via bye. He then got the better of Anthony Olson (21-6, 21-14) in the semi-finals to book his place in the main event.
The Guyanese talent, who won the ACAC tournament #1 last year and copped the Athlete of the Year and All Canadian Awards, later joined forces with Cecilia Wolski in to beat Jason Chiu and Carmen Wong 21-11, 21-8 in the mixed doubles final.
The duo, which was the number one seeded pair gained a first-round bye and moved on to beat the combination of Singh and Taylor Burton 21-17, 21-6 in the quarter finals before advancing to the final with a win over Anirudh Sharma and Ivy Ung 21-14, 21-16.
ACAC Tournament #3 will be held at King’s University next month. The ACAC Badminton Championship will be held shortly after to determine the athletes who will represent the ACAC at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (Nationals) to be held in March.
