According to police report, the woman had left her Belfield squatting area, ECD home at about 7 am to visit her brother at Lowlands, ECD, but was later discovered dead in a canal with stab wounds about her body.
The victim’s nephew, Mohamed, in an interview yesterday with Stabroek News, said that his aunt had left home to visit her brother at approximately 7 am on Monday.
Mohammed said that Nazaleen’s daughter had been unwell and before she left home she told her two neighbours, considered family friends, that she was going to visit her brother and to watch over her daughter. “She tell the person to take care of the daughter because she was going by her brother. After she would have left around seven o’clock and hours passed he decide to ring her phone. In the background he hear he mother say, ‘come leh meh talk to meh son, give meh meh phone’ and the phone cut off.”

Nazaleen was the mother of four children. She had ended her relationship with her ex-lover – the man who is now being sought – early last year.
In a statement on Tuesday, the police had said that inquiries disclosed that the woman was living with her daughter and reputed husband, who was at sea on a fishing boat at the time.
The statement added that at about 8:05 am, the victim’s 32-year-old son received a call from his mother’s cell phone, and heard a male voice whom he identified as the suspect, who had previously shared a relationship with his mother.
At the time, he also heard his mother shouting for her phone. Shortly after, the call ended.
