President of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA), Aleem Hussain, has endorsed the 2023 budget, especially the allocation for sports which he believes will help athletes from all sports disciplines excel in their respective fields. “It is heartening to see the emphasis that our leaders are placing on sports and its shows that the efforts by Minister Charles Ramson Jr., over the past few years are bearing fruit for the development of sport in the country,” he declared.
“We look forward to strong support from the ministry as we push to bring golf to all regions this year,” he added.
Golf has risen to challenge traditional sports disciplines over the past few years and the GGA feels that with the push for awareness and access to the sport under its strategic development plan, it will soon be acknowledged as a core sport.
Hussain emphasized that not only does golf present educational and networking opportunities, but it also attracts major attention and is a tremendous revenue generator for tourism purposes.
The GGA already has an agreement with the WAGC to host the annual championship in Guyana, the only requirement being construction of at least three golf courses to accommodate the 46 participating countries over a two week period.
Now with sports tourism on the rise, the GGA wants to make golf known to more than the elite, it will be a national sport in a golf nation.
