The maiden edition of the Rocks Auto Trans and Spares Parts ‘Legendary Cup’ Futsal Championship was officially launched yesterday at the company’s Charlotte Street location.
The tournament, which will utilize an elimination format, will feature 24 teams competing for $1M in prizes over the course of six nights at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue. The playing dates are February 4th, 7th, 11th, 14th, 18th and 25th.
The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, whilst the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.
On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive one motorcycle. Similarly, a patron will receive one motorcycle on the night of the final.
Yolandia Ross, manager of the establishment, stated that the rationale behind staging the tournament was not only to market the company but to contribute to the entity’s social responsibility by giving back to the communities.
She also revealed that the chief executive officer of the company is an avid fan of the discipline, which was also a driving force in the staging of the competition.
Meanwhile, referees coordinator, Wayne ‘Harry’ Griffith, confirmed that all systems were in place for an exciting tournament.
