Adrian Meddia, 29, of Tuschen north squatting area was arrested on Saturday around 23:15 hours after ranks of Regional Division Three found 1053.6 grammes of marijuana in his possession.
A police press release stated that ranks, acting on information received, went to Tuschen, East Bank, Essequibo. There they observed Meddia, who is Venezuelan, standing and holding a bulky haversack. One of the policemen approached him and identified himself as a policeman dressed in plain clothing. According to the release, he told Meddia he would like to search him for anything illegal — guns, drugs or ammunition and Meddia agreed.
Taking possession of the black haversack, the policeman opened it in the presence of Meddia and discovered two bulky parcels wrapped in scotch tape containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Meddia was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station. The marijuana, when weighed, amounted to 1053.6 grammes. He was placed in custody pending investigation and charges, the release said.
