Two former presidents of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) have been appointed to positions on the body.
Irshad Mohamad is now a vice president while Shivanand Nandalall joins the federation’s Board of Directors, a release from the GCF stated.
Mohammed fills the post vacated by former vice president Anand Raghunauth who is now the GCF president.
Raghunauth became GCF president after a no confidence motion was filed against then incumbent Frankie Farley.
Farley has since appealed his ouster to the world governing body Fide, who is still to rule on the matter.
Mohamad, the released stated, was nominated and appointed by majority vote on November 10th 2022 at a meeting of the Board of Directors. He also currently serves as Tournament Director within the Federation and is a FIDE Arbiter.
Nandalall served two consecutive terms at the helm before Mohamad took over in 2014.
Nandalall will serve alongside Raghunauth, Mohamad, Company Secretary Marcia Lee, Loris Nathoo, Davion Mars and Yolander Sammy.
According to the release, the next Annual General Meeting of the GCF is in November where a new executive will be elected.
