Shawn Williams (age and address not provided) was on January 25th remanded to prison by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts on the charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Williams faced the two charges which allege that on January 22nd at Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had in his possession one Glock 19 pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence. And also on the same date and at the same address, he had 5 live rounds of 9mm ammunition. He pleaded not guilty to both.
According to the facts of the matter, police ranks were on mobile patrol in Festival City when they saw Williams who was driving a motorcar acting in a suspicious manner. As such, the ranks stopped the vehicle and questioned the occupants.
A search was eventually carried out and according to the police prosecutor, the firearm along with the ammunition were discovered in the defendant’s pants crotch. However, Williams’s attorney, Clevaun Humphrey, argued that based on his client’s instructions, the items were found in the car itself and not on him.
Magistrate Daly then ruled that the man be remanded until his next court date on February 8.
