The Guyana Police Force says that the file on a fracas last December at the Providence Police Station is with the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum yesterday told Stabroek News that investigators had to clear up some points raised by legal advisors in the matter and the file is presently with the DPP for further legal advice. Blanhum added that the DPP will advise whether the Police have sufficient evidence to prosecute anyone or whether any further investigations should be carried out.

In a video that was posted last Friday, the aggrieved family which was allegedly assaulted by  security guards working for a businessman called for justice. In the video which was posted on Facebook, Anand Goodluck described the sequence of events between himself and the businessman’s son prior to the scuffle at the Providence station.

Goodluck claimed that he was gun-butted by one of the guards and his mother was slapped. At the police station, Goodluck said that one of the guards had a gun in his waist and he and the guard  tussled for control of it during which time a shot was fired off. The police in the station then fled.

Since the incident, Goodluck said he has gotten nowhere in getting redress for himself and family. Goodluck also alleged that police who were present at the Providence station that day have been transferred.

Observers have been puzzled that such a bizarre act in the station where a gun was fired had not been swiftly addressed by the force along with the assault allegations against the businessman’s guards.
