The calendar has flipped to February and as customary the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) is set to host its Novices/ Juniors Championships.
According to the Facebook page of the federation, the event is scheduled to lift off from 09:00hrs on February 19 at St Stanislaus College.
Athletes are asked to present themselves for weigh-in and equipment check between 06:30 hrs and 08:00hrs.
As is customary, the annual fixture will attract the cream of the nation’s juniors, teens and first time lifters looking to display their strength prowess.
The current most prolific junior lifter, 16-year-old Romeo Hunter is set to headline the event.
Trophies, medals and bragging rights will all be on the line as the eager athletes exhibit their strength in order to break records and earn titles.
Drug testing of athletes across all disciplines is now taking centre-stage and the GAPLF will not be left behind in the government’s quest to aid the governing body World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) in achieving its objective of a level playing field for all athletes.
