A collision between a pick-up and a Route 94 minibus on the Linden-Mabura trail yesterday afternoon claimed the life of a Cuban after a fire erupted and obliterated both vehicles.
According to a police report, minibus BVV 5915, was proceeding towards Mabura on the left side of the trail while the pick-up was proceeding in the opposite direction. The report said that in the vicinity of 39 and 40 Miles Mabura, while negotiating a bend, the vehicles collided head-on resulting in both bursting into flames.
The police report said that the Cuban national, who was seated immediately behind the driver, perished in the flames after she was pinned in her seat. At the time of the accident the minibus, driven by 35-year-old Kirk Allicock, was transporting thirteen passengers (Indian and Cuban nationals).
The release further said that the minibus driver and passengers suffered injuries and were taken to the Linden Hospital. Four persons, two males and two females, were treated before being referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The driver and remaining passengers are patients at the Linden Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. Up to press time the identity of the victim, the driver of the pick-up and vehicle registration number remained unknown.
