Director of Rehabilitation and Disability Services, Dr Ariane Mangar of the Ministry of Health and Assistant Chief Education Officer – SEND, Keon Cheong have teamed up to bolster and enhance the services offered at special education schools.
The team-up approach will see component-related services being provided, a release from the Ministry of Education said.
Related services help children with disabilities benefit from their special education by providing extra help and support in needed areas, such as speaking or moving. The release said that related services can include speech therapy, occupational therapy and audiology services.
These services are very important as they seek to make the individual function better. At special schools in Guyana, there are learners who have moderate to severe conditions and as such, related services added to academics will improve their quality of life.
On Tuesday, a space was identified for a therapy room from where related services will be offered to the students of the David Rose Special School.
