GFF receives One Guyana prize money from Ministry of Sport

The Guyana Football Federation has (GFF) received from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, prize money for the year-end football extravanga the One Guyana President’s Cup football competition.

The competition, which was launched in December by His Excellency Dr Irfaan Ali, ended on January 1 this year.

The competition was won by Region Four which defeated Region Three 2-1 in the grand finale. “All the stipend and everything else has been paid  over to the GFF which is approximately $32.3m, for the One Guyana tournament,” an official from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport stated.

Apart from prize money for the winning and runner-up teams, each player in the 25-member squad is expected to receive a one off payment of $80,000 with the captain and coach of each team to receive $100,000.

President Ali, at the launch had urged the players to prepare for Guyana possibly going to the World Cup in a few years hence.

“Aim at making football your food and fuel for the next couple of years in preparation of us going to the World Cup. You will have to subject yourself to training. We are going to work in putting you in the part-time employment programme so you can have some amount of income,” President Ali exhorted the players.
