With a successful turnout highlighting the opening night, the maiden edition of the Rocks Auto Trans and Spares Parts ‘Legendary Cup’ Futsal Championship continues tonight at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Several elimination matches will be on the card. In the opening match, Stabroek Ballers will lock horns with West Side Ballers from 19:45hrs, with Future Stars taking aim at Mocha Family from 20:30hrs, and Gold is Money tackling Albouystown from 21:15hrs.
In the fourth encounter, Vengy will match skills with Avocado Ballers from 22:00hrs. This will be followed by Alexander Village engaging Espanola from 22:45hrs, and powerhouse Bent Street matching skills with Vryheid’s Lust at 23:30hrs.
Tournament coordinator Wayne Griffith said, “The tournament has got off to an exciting start and is projected to improve with each playing night, as the teams vie for the coveted title. The opening night was incident free and we hope to continue that trend of providing exciting action for the patrons. The teams have shown a willingness to compete and participate which is evident by the fact that several other teams have inquired about joining the event. Unfortunately, we can’t increase the pool of teams at this moment but this certainly bodes well for the future of the competition.”
Over one million dollars in prizes will be up for grabs in the elimination event, which is scheduled to last for six nights at the same venue. The other playing dates are the 11th, 14th, 18th, and 25th.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with $500,000 and the championship trophy. Meanwhile, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will pocket $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.
On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be awarded a motorcycle. Similarly, a patron will also receive a motorcycle on the night of the final.
At the moment, Sparta Boss, Back Circle, and Beterverwagting have advanced to the next round following victories on the opening night.
